HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Police Department has confirmed that an officer has been put on administrative duty after being arrested for child abuse Thursday morning.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Huntsville Police Officer Chadwick Campbell was arrested and charged with willful torture/abuse of a child on Thursday.

“The victim and Campbell knew each other, but due to the victim being a juvenile, no further details will be released,” an MCSO spokesperson said. “His arrest had nothing to do with the performance of his duties as a Huntsville Police Officer.”

HPD told News 19 that Campbell was placed on administrative duty after the arrest, but declined further comment. The department added that Campbell turned himself in on a warrant issued by the sheriff’s office.

HPD said it is fully cooperating with MCSO’s investigation.
