Williamson County, FEMA to open Disaster Recovery Center for flood victims

AUSTIN (KXAN) — In an effort to help residents affected by floods in Central Texas, Williamson County, in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), announced it will soon open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Williamson County EMS North Campus.

The recovery center, located at 3189 Southeast Inner Loop in Georgetown, will be open from July 18 through August 10 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents do not need to make an appointment, according to a press release from Williamson County.

FEMA representatives will be at the site to help people who suffered flood-related damage or losses but are not covered by insurance. According to the release, representatives will also provide help with general disaster recovery.

“They will assist with navigating disaster assistance programs, answer questions and provide support,” the release said.

On Saturday, July 5, Williamson County experienced devastating flooding, where officials confirmed three people were killed.

The following Friday, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Williamson County was being added to the Presidential Disaster Declaration, KXAN reported.

The DRC will be open to homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained disaster-related damage in Williamson County. Assistance may include help with temporary housing, home repairs, personal property losses and other disaster-related needs, the release said.

In addition to the DRC, Williamson County will host a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) where local and nonprofit organizations will provide recovery resources, basic needs assistance and guidance for next steps, the release said.

The multi-agency resource center will also be open at the EMS North Campus from Friday, July 18 to Sunday, July 20, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting the DRC by either calling 800-621-3362, visiting disasterassistance.gov or using the FEMA mobile app.
