Undocumented immigrant wanted for rape and child molestation arrested in Iredell County: Sheriff

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man wanted in Indiana for serious crimes was arrested in Iredell County following a joint effort by local and federal law enforcement agencies.

Deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office assisted officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Unit and agents with the FBI Violent Crime Task Force in arresting Marvin Jose Vasquez-Martinez on July 16.

Vasquez-Martinez was wanted on an outstanding fugitive warrant from Indiana for charges of rape and child molestation. Authorities said he was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. His bond has been set at $1 million.

During the booking process, officials discovered that Vasquez-Martinez is an undocumented immigrant. As a result, the detention center contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which then issued an immigration detainer for him.

He is currently being held on both the criminal charges and the immigration detainer.
