A dog missing since Hurricane Harvey in 2017 was finally reunited with its family, all thanks to a microchip and one compassionate community member. The dog, named Blue, was recently found alone in a public bathroom at Cameron Park. The good Samaritan who discovered Blue brought her to Pet Circle, where the front desk staff scanned her for a microchip.
According to the City of Waco, the chip was registered to a family in Corpus Christi. When the number on file was called, the owner was overwhelmed with emotion. Blue had been missing since 2017, when Hurricane Harvey destroyed the family’s fence. At just two years old, Blue slipped away during the storm and never returned until now.
After nearly eight years, the family was thrilled to learn that Blue was safe. The finder generously offered to meet the owner halfway to ensure Blue could finally return home.
The City of Waco says this heartwarming reunion is a powerful reminder that microchips work. Because Blue was chipped, and her owner’s contact information was up to date, she was able to find her way home after nearly a decade apart.
