Aaron Dontay Williams, 41, is accused of killing his wife and her daughter in Auburn and kidnapping their son. The son was the subject of an Amber Alert on July 10.
Williams lived in Huntsville for several years, and police say he returned to the Huntsville area the week of the murders. News 19 crew members spoke to workers at the Economy Inn located on University Drive last Friday. According to motel employees, two men and a child checked into the motel around 9:30 p.m. and July 8 and they checked out the following morning.
Motel officials told News 19 that they believe a family member of Aaron Williams booked a room at the motel.
Local law enforcement agencies assisted the U.S. Marshals in finding Williams at the Rodeway Inn in Ardmore on July 11. The child was found unharmed.
Williams was extradited from the Giles County Jail in Tennessee to the Auburn Police Department on Wednesday after waiving his right to fight extradition. While he was at the department, warrants charging him with capital murder and kidnapping were executed, and then he was transported to the Lee County Jail.

Court records show Aaron Williams had a lengthy criminal history in Madison County. His last arrests were for DUI in 2020 and a felon in possession of a weapon charge in early 2021. He pleaded guilty to those charges, according to court records.
