The city said on social media that both northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 281 are closed between Farm-to-Market 1431, as well as Broadway, due to the gas leak.
The Marble Falls Fire Rescue, Marble Falls Police Department and Atmos Energy responded to the scene.
The city said that portion of the road will remain closed for an extended period of time, so that crews can “work to safely repair the leak.”
“Barricades are in place and no through traffic is allowed in the affected area,” the city said.
The community is urged to avoid the area and “follow all posted detours.”
