Freeport Fire Department rescues pets from house fire

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — A kitchen fire was responsible for setting a family’s home ablaze while they were away from the house Wednesday night in Freeport.

According to the Freeport Fire Department, firefighters responding to the 600 block of West Clark Street found heavy smoke and fire showing from the windows of the single-story residence around 8:22 p.m.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire quickly, but the house is damaged by both smoke and fire damage, officials said.

No residents were home at the time, but two pets were rescued by first responders.

The damages area expected to exceed $35,000.
