The Customer Relief fund was started to give $500 to eligible residential customers and $1,000 to eligible nonprofits.
The Chicago Tribune reports that nearly 60,000 customers have submitted applications since they were opened on July 7th.
A ComEd spokesperson said they anticipated the fund would close soon due to high enrollment.
On June 1st, ComEd raised its capacity charge, the cost paid for companies to store extra energy in case of a spike in demand.
