Around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, deputies were called to the shooting on US Highway 601 near Sells Road, just outside the city limits of Salisbury. At first, they were told it was a road rage shooting; however, it later came out that both people involved were family members.
Both people were found at the scene, one of whom was shot in the head, according to authorities. That person was taken to Baptist Hospital and remains in critical care. The other person involved was not injured and is cooperating with investigators.
It appears that only one vehicle was damaged in the incident, and Highway 601 reopened around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16.
The shooting is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office at 704-216-8700. You can also anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at rowancrimestoppers.org or at 1-866-639-JAIL (5245)
