Police respond to 'suspicious circumstance' in Salt Lake, Hazardous Devices Unit called
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Salt Lake City Police Department has responded to a “suspicious circumstance” near the Salt Lake International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.

Details on the situation are limited, but Salt Lake City Police confirmed the incident in regards to an unknown package near 100 North and 2400 West.

A Hazardous Devices Unit with the police department has reportedly responded to the scene to help with the investigation. As the investigation continues, 2400 West between South Temple to North Temple has been closed.

According to Yaier Javaid, Public Information Officer for the Salt Lake City Police Department, the public should continue to avoid the area, and there is no currently estimated time for when the roads will reopen.

Javaid said that the unknown package is an “item,” and it is located outdoors, but he was not able to provide any additional details.

He also said that the Hazardous Devices Unit is using different resources such as robots and drones in their investigation. He also confirmed that multiple agencies are responding, though he did not specify which agencies.

The airport is open and operating business as usual.

The investigation is still ongoing.
