Monday high temperatures warmed several degrees compared to Sunday afternoon, peaking in the upper 80s, a level a few degrees above normal for mid July. A few locations even reached 90 degrees, with Hebron, Ind. the area’s hot spot.
The city also enjoyed its first completely sunny day in more than two weeks!
O’Hare and Midway respectively are now at 39 and 42 days of 80-degrees or warmer for the year, but Monday marked the 30th day in a row to reach at least 80-degrees, a fairly impressive run!
An Air Quality Alert was issued around lunchtime Monday as the AQI (Air Quality Index) reached 159 in the city of Chicago late afternoon, a level considered unhealthy for everyone. For sensitive groups it’s recommended to avoid prolonged or heavy exertion, and move activities indoors or reschedule to a time when air quality is better. Even the healthiest individuals are encouraged to reduce prolonged exertion and to take more breaks during all outdoor activities.
