Here’s how much Kentucky’s US Senate candidates are bringing in on the campaign trail

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — It’s quarterly campaign finance reporting time; while not the liveliest topic for political outsiders, it is one of many metrics to judge how a campaign is doing at different points in the race.

Congressman Andy Barr leads with a significant advantage, pulling in nearly $1.1 million in contributions between April and June, for a total of $6.1 million cash on hand; that’s money ready to be spent.

“This is a very clearly a good day for Andy Barr, who came into this race with a nice pool of money already saved up,” FOX 56 News Political Analyst Jonathan Miller said. “It’s very healthy, particularly this early with this many candidates in the race.”

Barr’s campaign called the numbers a “clear sign of momentum”. Former Attorney General Daniel Cameron reported about $385 thousand in contributions this quarter. His campaign has $532 thousand in the bank.

“I remind people that I didn’t raise the most in my governor’s race, but I won that primary with nearly 50% of the vote,” Cameron told FOX 56 in an interview this month when asked about his finances.

Although there’s significantly less raised than Barr, Miller isn’t counting Cameron out.

“He’s ahead in terms of name recognition. So, you know, on that side, he’s definitely beating Barr. But, if this disparity continues, then Barr will be in great shape, but obviously we don’t know yet what Nate Morris is doing,” Miller said.

“Just like a new venture, I’ve had to put in some of my own capital, and I’m willing to spend whatever it takes to be successful,” Morris told FOX 56 in an interview earlier this month.

Morris entered the race late enough in the quarter that no report was required, but in his sit-down with FOX 56, he said he’d be self-financing his campaign in addition to donor support from across the nation.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

On the Democrat side, State Representative Pam Stevenson reported about $150 thousand in contributions this quarter but has just under $50 thousand cash on hand.

“If Pam Stevenson is going to make a run or if any Democrat is going to win that race, it’s pretty clear that the national Democrats needed to come in and fund that race, which they can do,” Miller said.

The next opportunity to take a look at the numbers is in October.
