Harris Teeter employee accused of stealing over $11,000 from employer

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Harris Teeter employee from Shelby is facing serious charges after reportedly stealing over $11,000 from the company, court documents state.

Brittany Allison Gardner, 35, has been charged with larceny by an employee after authorities said she took $11,170 that was meant to be kept for her employer’s use.

According to court records, the alleged theft occurred on July 14, 2025, while Gardner was working for the popular grocery chain in Mecklenburg County.

Investigators state that Gardner, who was entrusted with handling the company’s funds, instead embezzled the money and used it for her own gain. The act was reportedly committed without Harris Teeter’s knowledge or consent, a breach of trust, according to court filings.

Gardner was taken into custody and has since posted bond. She made her first court appearance on July 15. The case is due back in court this August.

Queen City News has reached out to Harris Teeter for comment.
