‘Bomb threats’ at Kyle city hall cancels Tuesday council meeting, Mayor says

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Kyle City Council meeting that was scheduled Tuesday night was recessed due to bomb threats made at city hall, according to a social media post from the City of Kyle Mayor Travis Mitchell.

KXAN reached out to the City of Kyle and the Kyle Police Department for a statement and will update this story.

A social media post from the Kyle Police Department said officers responded to a report of “multiple threats” made at city hall at 6:53 p.m. — that’s just before the start of the council meeting on Tuesday. The building was quickly evacuated and police cleared the area, Kyle Police said.

“At this time, the credibility of the threat is still under investigation,” KPD said.

In the post Mitchell said the department received a “bomb threat” that was “deemed credible enough for us to recess our meeting out of an abundance of caution.”

The Council meeting was recessed until Wednesday at 7 p.m., the post said.

Mitchell also mentioned in the post, that he had planned at the meeting to announce he would be stepping down as mayor this November.

“Today, I’m announcing that I will be stepping down as mayor this November — one year before the end of my final term,” Mitchell said. Visit the post to read the full statement.
