Aaron Vice’s first time coaching at Newman was Arch Manning’s last time playing there

NEW ORLEANS — Aaron Vice spent the last three years as the offensive coordinator at University Lab and was calling plays for the team that ended Arch Manning’s Newman career in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Division III select playoffs.

Now, he’s the new head football coach at Newman.

“I got to see Arch a few weeks ago, and he managed to bring that up to. You know, we were really good at U-High that year, and we played really well that night. That was my first time to ever coach at Newman, to coach against them. So, I got to see the atmosphere and the coolness of how the campus is, and the stadium kind of surrounded by the school. So, that only intrigued me more by it. But it was kind of how it goes. It comes full circle, you know,” said Newman head football coach Aaron Vice.

Some of Vice’s newest weapons remember that night as well.

“I was in the eighth grade when my cousin Jaiden Ausberry they were playing at U-High, and they beat the brakes off of Newman, and I was like, they’ve got a good offense,” said Newman wide receiver Hendrix Hill.

When Nelson Stewart announced he was leaving Newman in January, the school conducted a national search for its new head coach.

Vice was chosen from a pool of 56 candidates to be the new leader of the Greenies’ football program.

“I wasn’t looking to leave where I was. U-High was an awesome place, and I’m a Baton Rouge guy, an LSU guy, and I was on the campus. There’s a small, small handful of places that I would have tried for, and this was one because I knew I fit into it, and I understand the school and the culture. So, it’s awesome that I got it. I think I was just patient and waited for the right thing and the right time,” said Vice.

Aaron Vice has over 15 years of coaching experience and brings a wealth of offensive knowledge to Isidore Newman.
