Michael Wright purchased the winning Triple Red 777 Scratchers ticket from Arco ampm at 199 Elmira Road for $10. The gas station is located across the street from Wright’s former workplace, and was part of his daily rhythm, according to lottery officials.
After scratching the ticket, Wright was left in disbelief. “Am I seeing things? Is this a dream? Oh my gosh and I lost my mind in the store,” Wright told the California Lottery.
For Wright, the $1 million win marks the beginning of something new.
“I told my son, ‘We’re going to transition. I’ll find something else for us. We are going to exit gracefully,” he said. “This win came at the right time and if you don’t believe in a higher power when this type of stuff happens, you’ve got to!”
Backed by his newfound fortunes, Wright plans to launch a family business with his wife and move into a new home.
