A social media post from a concerned citizen started to gain traction Sunday, showing a deceased dog that community members believed was decapitated lying in the backyard of a home on the 1200 block of Marshall Street.
The post also showed several other dogs on the property that were still alive.
Abilene police confirmed animal control officers were at the home Monday. They said officers are working with the homeowner and trying to get voluntary custody of the remaining animals.
KTAB and KRBC spoke to the homeowner, who said that the dead dog passed away while they were out of town and claimed they buried him the same day.
This homeowner also said he feeds the remaining dogs and is asking the public to stop bringing him food.
Police have yet to comment on whether or not criminal charges are being pursued against the homeowner or anyone else involved. However, the homeowner says he will not be facing charges.
