Two arrested after Fourth of July deadly shooting in Geismar

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested two people in connection with a deadly Fourth of July shooting.

According to the sheriff’s office, Jadon Sterling, 17, of Gonzales, and Jeremiah Brown, 20, of St. Gabriel, were arrested on charges of second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile. Brown is also charged with principal to second-degree murder and principal to illegal use of weapons.

Around 10 p.m., APSO deputies were called to a home on Dave Miller Road in Geismar about a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found Justin Scott, 18, with multiple gunshot wounds. He later died at the hospital.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Scott and Sterling were at a gathering at the residence before they got into a fight. Sterling was struck and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was arrested after being released from the hospital.

The sheriff’s office said further investigation revealed that Brown reportedly acted as the getaway driver after the shooting. He turned himself in after an arrest warrant was filed.

This is an ongoing investigation.
