PARK CITY, Utah (
ABC4) — The Sundance Film Festival is celebrating its last year in Park City before moving to Boulder, Colo., in 2027. Here’s what we know so far.
Sundance is celebrating its final year in Park City in 2026. This year’s festival, which will also hold showings in Salt Lake City, is meant to honor its founder, Robert Redford.
“Robert Redford’s belief in the power of storytelling has shaped independent cinema for over 40 years. That dedication forged the Sundance Film Festival,” a press release from the Sundance Institute states. “From the artists premiering their new works to the audiences connecting over a discovery, our stories on and off screen during each Festival are the ones we remember for a lifetime, the ones that shift culture and introduce fresh perspectives. It’s these moments that intersect and weave together into one unified, evolving story of the Festival.”
This year’s festival will take place Jan. 22 – Feb. 1. Premieres will be held Thursday, Jan. 22 – Tuesday, Jan. 27. Park City’s Main Street will be pedestrian-only again for the festival. Audiences will see films, episodic projects, and more for the first time, with additional showings throughout the festival.
Starting Wednesday, Jan. 28, the festival will be holding special screenings and legacy talks and events, celebrating over 40 years of Sundance in Park City. At-home screenings will be available online Thursday, Jan. 29 – Sunday, Feb. 1, which will feature films in Sundance’s five competition sections, including NEXT — A program that showcases American films characterized by innovative storytelling and a forward-thinking approach.
Sundance 2026 will feature 90-plus features and 50-plus shorts. It will also showcase the annual Beyond Film series — a series of talks and events with compelling artists and creatives.
In Park City, premieres and screenings will be held at the Eccles Theatre, Holiday Village Cinemas, Library Center Theatre, The Ray Theatre, Redstone Cinemas, and The Yarrow Theatre (located at DoubleTree by Hilton Park City – The Yarrow). In Salt Lake City, showings will be held at the Salt Lake Film Society’s Broadway Centre Cinemas and Rose Wagner Performing Arts Centre.
Sundance Institute’s Filmmaker Lodge on Main Street in Park City will host Beyond Film programming. Additional conversations will be held at The Box at The Ray. The Park will serve as a private events venue.
This year’s Headquarters and Artist, Industry, and Press Hub will be at the Sheraton Park City, located at 1895 Sidewinder Dr., Park City, Utah, 84060. The festival’s jury and audience awards will be presented on Friday, Jan. 30, at a ceremony at The Ray Theatre in Park City.
On Friday, Jan. 23, the festival will honor Redford’s vision at the Sundance Film Festival Celebration, held at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley.
“Park City has been an integral part of our Festival, and we’re honored to show our appreciation throughout the 2026 Festival, including a program of archival screenings, restorations, and special events,” the Sundance Institute stated.
