Rise and shine! Bob Knight to be inducted into the Arkansas Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame

The man behind the voice that called out local listeners to “Rise and Shine” each morning on KTLO is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for Arkansas broadcasters.
Bob Knight will be inducted on September 15 at the Hall of Fame Banquet hosted by the The Arkansas Broadcasters Association (ABA) in Hot Springs.

Knight, who passed in 2021, was not only the voice of KTLO for over 50 years but was known as a staunch champion and promoter of the Twin Lakes Area. He served as a past president of the ABA, was awarded the ABA Silver Mic Award in 1999 and chaired the PAC for 23 years.

While the state takes the time to recognize Bob, it’s a reminder of what his listener’s always knew- A calming voice that brought comfort during storms, world events, and many sports broadcasts. Placing a strong emphasis on local news, Bob and his wife Sue spent their careers building up KTLO into a powerhouse for news, sports and entertainment with four broadcasting stations.

Bob began working at KTLO-AM at the age of 23 after his time in the Navy serving on the Battleship USS New Jersey. KTLO and Knight became synonymous with community support. He spent nearly 16 years as president of the Mountain Home Education Foundation Board of Directors and was inducted into the Mountain Home Education Foundation Hall of Honor in 2009. He was also a past president of the Mountain Home Lions Club, the Baxter County Razorback Club, the Mountain Home Industrial Park Board and the Mountain Home Planning Commission and served as a board member of the Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce, the Baxter Health Foundation (formerly the Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation) and the Arkansas State University-Mountain Home Advisory Board. The City of Mountain Home proclaimed July 15, 2021, as “Bob Knight Day.”

Knight joins a class of four other prominent Arkansas broadcasters including Jay Bunyard, Ed Buckner, Sid King and Tim Nichols to round out the ABA Hall of Fame inductees for 2025.
