Poirier vs. Holloway III: Same story or a new chapter at UFC 318?

NEW ORLEANS, La. (KLFY) — It’s fight week here in the bayou state.

“The Diamond” Dustin Poirier will go toe to toe with Max “Blessed” Holloway Saturday, July 19 in the main event of UFC 318 for the BMF title. Poirier is 2-0 all-time against Holloway, looking to make it 3-0 on his way out of the UFC.

UFC veteran “Crazy” Tim Credeur was in Dustin’s corner for the first fight he had against Max Holloway at UFC 143 in 2012. Poirier won the bout at UFC143 via submission with a triangle armbar. Poirier and Holloway met again for the Interim Lightweight Title in April of 2019 at UFC 236. The two sluggers went the distance in the 5-round fight, with Poirier emerging victorious via unanimous decision. Given their history, Tim Credeur knows that Holloway isn’t coming to New Orleans to give Poirier a memorable moment to conclude his career, but Poirier appears as sharp as ever.

“I was in his corner when he fought Max the first time. We knew Dustin was better everywhere. I think in the second fight, that changed a little bit. You know, I think max got a lot better. It was obvious he got a lot better and they beat the crap out of each other. I was really nervous in that second fight. You know, I was in Atlanta and my wife and I were freaking out, almost had a nervous breakdown. I think I had three heart attacks and but he still was able to put it together. Max Holloway is not coming to lose. You know, he doesn’t care about none of this stuff, but Dustin’s in probably the best shape I’ve ever seen him. He was training here pretty recently, and he looks crazy. He’s got 37 abs and you know, he’s training like it’s his last dance. You know, and that’s the thing that I’m most proud of, is he’s got a wonderful career and a beautiful career. But Dustin lives in the moment, and he is in this for all the marbles, dude, till the wheels fall off.”
