BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — July 15, 2025 — A 64-year-old Bloomington man was hospitalized Monday afternoon after accidentally shooting himself in the leg outside the Monroe County Humane Association, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the incident around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the facility located at 791 S. Fieldstone Blvd. First responders found the man suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. He told authorities the revolver “went off” as he was exiting his vehicle.
A bystander quickly stepped in to help apply a tourniquet, while staff members from the Humane Association assisted with first aid until emergency crews arrived.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident. No further information has been released.
