The Kansas Department of Revenue, assisted by the Russell, Scott, Thomas, Phillips, Rooks, and the Pawnee County Sheriff departments, has executed tax warrants and seized the assets of San Juan Mexican Restaurant Inc. The restaurant operated locations in Colby, Larned, Phillipsburg, Plainville, Russell, and Scott City.
The department also seized the assets and personal property of six people. Assets seized include bank accounts, on-site cash, business inventory, and personal property.
The Kansas Department of Revenue says that the restaurant chain owes the state sales and liquor tax by $301,031.29. The businesses have been sealed, and all assets will be auctioned off to pay back taxes.
KDOR says the agency works with those with delinquent taxes on repayment plans. However, it’s when those efforts fail, along with other collection attempts, that the state moves to seize businesses and other assets.
Employees, customers, and others who may have personal property at the restaurants are asked to contact the agent assigned to the case at 316-337-6130.
