EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (ABC4) — A man has been arrested and charged with allegedly hiding a camera in the bathroom to create child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of minors in the home. One child also reported that they had been sexually abused by the man, documents say.
The 46-year-old man from Eagle Mountain — whom ABC4 is not identifying to protect the victims — has been charged with four counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, witness tampering, interfering with a peace officer, and two counts of voyeurism.
According to documents, on May 22, 2025, Utah County Sheriff’s Office detectives were contacted by a mother who believed her husband had “acted inappropriately with her children while they were in the shower.” She said that she had found a hidden camera in a bathroom vent, and one of her children said he put his phone over the shower curtain.
The mother confronted the 46-year-old man about what happened, and she allegedly recorded the conversation. In the recording, she tells him it’s “not okay” that he put a camera in the bathroom, and he allegedly responds, “That’s done, it happened, and it’s in the past.” He went on to say that people “make mistakes,” and they should teach forgiveness.
During interviews with the three minor children, ages 12, 9, and 7, police learned more about what had happened.
The first victim, 12, told police that about a year ago, while they were showering, the 46-year-old allegedly entered the bathroom and stuck his phone over the top of the curtain. The victim said that the man also made comments about sexual acts with themself and a sibling.
The 7-year-old victim disclosed that they had been inappropriately touched by the 46-year-old man on multiple occasions. They also told police that they had seen the man peeking into the bathroom while other children were in the shower, according to documents.
When the mother first discovered the camera, she texted the 46-year-old about it. He allegedly offered to buy her dinner and give her $400 not to say anything about the videos. During the conversation, he emphasized that it was a mistake and that the family needed to “get through this together.”
On July 9, 2025, law enforcement met with the 46-year-old at his home in Eagle Mountain. He allegedly confessed to placing the hidden camera, but he also said that he knew it was wrong and had not done it since. During the conversation, the man grabbed his phone.
Law enforcement allegedly asked the man not to touch his phone, and he put it down. Later, he touched it, and they reminded him not to. At this point, the man allegedly grabbed his phone and held it close to his body. He resisted giving the officers his phone, and detectives detained him with handcuffs.
A search warrant served on the 46-year-old’s cell phone revealed “hundreds of files” captured from the hidden camera. Some of the files dated back to 2022 and had captured four minor victims in “various stages of undress,” qualifying as CSAM.
The 46-year-old man was booked into the Utah County Jail and is currently being held without bail.
