Congresswoman Madeleine Dean Believes Bob Harvie Is the Change Pennsylvania’s First Congressional District Needs

The race to represent Pennsylvania’s First Congressional District is on.

In addition to receiving The Bucks County Democratic Committee endorsement after announcing his run to unseat incumbent Republican Brian Fitzpatrick, Congresswoman Madeleine Dean has just endorsed Bob Harvie for Congress.

Dean represents Pennsylvania’s 4th District. Today she became the first member of Congress to endorse Harvie. Dean is known for her work to expand access to health care, champion gun violence prevention and stand up for reproductive rights and the rule of law in Congress.

“Bob Harvie has a proven record of bipartisan results as Bucks County Commissioner and will fight for working families. Bob cares, listens, and gets things done. That’s the kind of leadership we need in Washington – it’s time for change. I know Bob Harvie will work every day to deliver for the constituents of the 1st Congressional District, for hard-working Pennsylvanians and all American families,” Dean said in an email.

Harvie is a lifelong Bucks County resident, former public school teacher and current Bucks County Commissioner. Dean’s endorsement adds to a growing coalition of support behind Harvie’s campaign to defeat Fitzpatrick in November.

Fitzpatrick has been plagued by ties to the Trump Administration. He has repeatedly voted to advance Trump’s agenda.

However, Fitzpatrick was one of two lone Republicans, which included Rep. Tom Massey of Kentucky, to join all House Democrats to vote against the Senate’s version of the massive spending package known as “one big beautiful bill.” This was after Fitzpatrick voted to advance it to the Senate – which only passed by a one-vote margin. Trump’s package of tax breaks, massive spending cuts to social programs like Medicaid and SNAP and bolstered deportation funds was fast-tracked to meet Trump’s self-imposed July 4 deadline.

Fitzpatrick’s 2024 win against Democratic Challenger Ashley Ehasz marked his fifth term in Congress in a district carried by Joe Biden in 2020, WHYY.org reported.

“I’m honored to earn Congresswoman Dean’s endorsement. She has been a tireless champion for working families, protecting access to health care, and fighting for reproductive freedom. Her leadership and partnership mean so much to me, and together we’ll work to deliver real change.”

“Indivisible Bucks County is thrilled that Madeleine Dean is endorsing Bob Harvie for Congress. Pennsylvania’s First Congressional District has been starving for a responsive, constituent-focused leader for years, and Bob Harvie has what it takes to lead with honesty, integrity, intelligence and empathy,” said Laura Rose, a co-leader of Indivisible Bucks County. “It’s vital that Democrats regain the House in 2026, and we believe now more than ever that we can flip this seat.”
