Here in New Orleans, we continue to celebrate the French influence on our city.
WGNO’s Kenny Lopez shows you how Superior Seafood is marking the holiday with its wine and cheese pairings.
Superior Seafood is typically known for its gulf oysters, but on Bastille Day they’re diversifying their menu with special French cheeses.
“We will have two different cheese boards,” said Nicole Barthel, Executive Chef at Superior Seafood. “One is going to be a more adventurous plate that will have more pungent cheeses, not as mild, and they are going to have stronger flavors. These are for the person who wants to try something different. Then we will have a classic cheese plate that’s going to have milder cheeses, and they are cheeses that you are more likely to know.”
Of course we’ll need wine to pair with the cheeses.
“With our classic cheese board, we’re offering the La Garenne Sanserre, which is 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc,” said Patrick McGivney, Assistant General Manager of Superior Seafood. “The Sanserre is from the Sanserre region of France. This wine is a little bit lighter, and it has hints of lemon and green apple to it.”
“Then with our adventurous cheese board, we’re going to be offering a Brewer Clifton Chardonnay. In this wine, you’ll have notes of lime and orange,” McGivney said.
Superior Seafood has strong French connections. The restaurant features a 32-foot imported zinc-metal L-shaped bar from Paris.
