The shooting, which took place on July 12 shortly after 7 pm, left one woman injured and at least seven vehicles shot into.
Truman Fitzgerald, with Birmingham Police Department, said the shootout was between two groups in the back parking lot of Woodlawn High School during Woodlawn Alumni Day.
Hours after the shooting, officers with BPD’s Special Enforcement Team initiated a traffic stop at the Arkadelphia Road/I-59N entrance ramp and arrested four suspects in connection with the shooting.
22-year-old Camron Hinton, 22-year-old Freddy Hurst III, 27-year-old D’Andre Watkins, and 28-year-old Stefon Todd are all charged with first degree assault and are being held on $30,000 bail.
Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett issued the following statement following the arrests made in the case:
The swift arrest of these 4 individuals should send a clear message that shooting
innocent people, in our community, will not be tolerated. I urge community members to
speak up and share any addition video evidence of the shooting, to ensure those
responsible are held fully accountable. Thank God a life was not taken. However, we
want to make sure these shooters remain behind bars, so that they don’t have the
opportunity to take an innocent life.
