2025 USA Cycling Endurance Mountain Bike National Championships comes to the Valley

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia’s Blue Ridge is set to become America’s mountain biking capital, hosting the USA Cycling Endurance Mountain Biking Championship this week.

Thousands of cyclists from across the country will compete on trails at Explore Park, Elmwood Park and Carvins Cove.

“The Valley embraces cycling for youth and adults, said John Owens, Hollins University Outdoor Program director. “To be here, to have this promoted, and to see all the work that my team and so many others have put in over the years, culminating in being able to host something like nationals, speaks volumes to our trails. To the community that is willing to put the work in, and our ability to be on trails and downtown in such quick proximity. It makes it the perfect venue for this.”

Abigail Snyder moved to Roanoke for the mountain trails. In fact, it’s her fifth championship ride. She tells WFXR that living here gave her a bit of an advantage. She didn’t have to learn the trails this past week. She already knew them.

“I love the personal challenge of it,” said Roanoke resident Abigail Snyder. “I come in with the idea of, like, just stay curious and see what will happen. You know, yes, there’s always the potential for a podium. But more than that, I think it’s like, what can I learn? And how can I, like, push myself to grow and be better?”

Roanoke will host the championships this year and in 2026.

“This being one of the most prestigious mountain biking events in the country, means that these riders are going to bring big cheering sections with them,” said Kathryn Lucas, director of public relations with Visit Virginia Blue Ridge. “They’re going to bring their family and their friends because this is the event to compete in. So, it’s not just going to be 2200 athletes coming here. It’s going to be, you know, big groups of people with them. When these athletes are out training on the trails, their family is going to be looking for things to do and ways to enjoy Roanoke and Virginia’s Blue Ridge.
