In LendingTree’s latest study, Texas accounts for five of the ten cities with the highest percentage of fatal crashes involving a drunken driver.
El Paso leads the state and nation in fatal crashes involving a drunken driver. 61% of fatal crashes in El Paso involved a drunken driver. Fort Worth (52%), Houston (49%), Dallas (49%), and Arlington (46%) also landed in the top 10.
Gen Z drivers are most likely to be caught driving under the influence. Gen Z leads all age groups with a DUI rate of 2.62 per 1,000 drivers, and Millennials are close behind with a rate of 2.40.
Despite the highest DUI fatality rate, all Texas cities reported auto insurance increases below the national average of $2,449 following a DUI. Houston saw the highest increase in Texas at $1,026, while El Paso, with the top DUI fatal crash rate, had one of the lowest increases at just $798.
