Louisiana residents can now use LA Wallet nationwide at airports, federal buildings

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Louisiana residents can now use Louisiana Wallet at TSA security checkpoints, federal buildings, and courthouses nationwide.

According to the office of Gov. Jeff Landry, LA Wallet can be presented for the next three years after meeting federal requirements. The digital wallet app will be reviewed again by the Transportation and Security Administration in 2028.

“We’re doing what no other administration has been able to do. We’re making the convenience of going to get your driver’s license so much more easier, and we look forward to you using Louisiana Wallet nationwide,” Landry said in a video announcement.

Last year, the New Orleans airport was OK’d to accept LA Wallet at TSA checkpoints. According to the TSA website, Louisiana is only eligible to use LA Wallet as a digital form of ID, not Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

A REAL ID will still be needed to board a flight or enter federal buildings. Enforcement of REAL ID began on May 7.

The digital driver’s license app, LA Wallet, launched in the summer of 2018 after a bill passed during the Louisiana Legislature in 2016. In the following years, LA Wallet was approved as a valid form of ID for voting and verifying age and identity at stores, restaurants, and bars.
