“With deep sorrow and heartfelt reverence, we announce the passing of our beloved and courageous leader, Hundley Batts, Sr. At the age of 81, he peacefully transitioned from this life on Sunday, July 12, 2025.
Batts often said, “I plan to work until I get tired. And I don’t tire easily.” Well done, Mr. Batts. Well done.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Batts and his late wife, Dr. Virginia Caples, owned WEUP FM, the very first black-owned and operated radio station in the state of Alabama.
He was inducted into the Alabama Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2019.
