According to the report, both Topeka and Manhattan fall below the national wage average. The average hourly wage in Topeka was $28.10 and $26.30 in Manhattan compared to the national average of $32.66.
In Topeka, the highest paying occupations were in management, healthcare and computer/mathematical groups. In Manhattan, management jobs paid the most followed by legal.
Food preparation jobs paid the least for both metro cities. The average food preparation wage in Manhattan was $14.91 and $16.05 in Topeka compared to the national average of $17.32.
Last month the BLS released its Q4 2024 employment report for Kansas showing which counties paid the most and which paid the least. Of the four largest counties in Kansas (Johnson, Sedgwick, Shawnee and Wyandotte), Shawnee County had the largest wage and employment increase, according to the BLS.
