GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Just days after celebrating the production of its 850,000th truck, Daimler Truck North America LLC has announced temporary layoffs impacting nearly 600 workers at its Mount Holly facilities.

According to a notice filed on July 11, 2025, the company will temporarily lay off a total of 573 employees at two sites in Gaston County:

  • 286 employees at 1803 Main Street
  • 287 employees at 1800 North Main Street

The layoffs are scheduled to take effect on September 9, 2025. The company has not yet publicly stated the reason for the temporary reduction in workforce.

Daimler recently celebrated the completion of its 850,000th truck, a Western Star 47X, at its Cleveland, NC, plant. It’s one of the largest commercial vehicle manufacturers in North America.
