In a Facebook post, the South Bend Police Department confirmed that it sent officers to the 600 block of West Washington Street around 8 p.m. because it had received a report that indicated a tree had fallen on two pedestrians. When police arrived at the scene, they located a male victim who had been injured by a large fallen tree limb.
SBPD reported that the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s wife was also injured during the incident. She was taken to a hospital to have her injuries treated.
SBPD confirmed that the victim and his wife were both from the Indianapolis area. SBPD reported that the victim’s name will be withheld until his family is properly notified of his death.
