NORTH BETHESDA, Md. (DC News Now) — Montgomery County is taking a major step toward creating a more vibrant and connected North Bethesda, thanks to a $250,000 state grant.

The funding will support “Project Connect,” a bold redevelopment plan to transform 13.9 acres around the North Bethesda Metro Station into a walkable, mixed-use community featuring housing, retail, entertainment, and job opportunities, all centered around transit access.

“This is going to help activate property that’s just sitting there,” said Chris Conklin of the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT).

Plans include a new northern Metro entrance and infrastructure to support the county’s FLASH bus rapid transit line on MD 355.

The initiative is a partnership between Montgomery County, the Maryland Department of Transportation, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2030.
