Gap Fire mapped at nearly 700 acres, 30% contained
SCIPIO, Utah (ABC4) — The Gap Fire burning in central Utah is mapped at 671 acres with 30% containment, according to an update from Utah Fire Info on Saturday.
“Today, ground crews are focusing their efforts on continuing to secure and strengthen containment lines on steep, rugged terrain on the north/northeast perimeter of the fire, utilizing a type 3 helicopter to provide water support as needed,” Utah Fire Info stated on social
Responding resources include the Central Utah Type 3 Incident Management Team, 12 Engines, State Task Force, one hotshot crew, four Type 2 IA hand crews, a Type 3 Helicopter, and Diamond Fork Helitack.

The fire reportedly started on Wednesday, officials with the Utah Department of Forestry, Fire and State Lands (FFSL) said. While the dry conditions and strong winds fueled the fire initially, growth on the fire has remained insignificant thanks to fire crews’ response, remaining in the 600-acre range.

There are a handful of homes within two or three miles of the blaze, but crews have been able to keep the wildfire contained. Crews transitioned to a larger Type three team after the initial response.
“Hopefully, we’ll have this wrapped up in a handful of days versus weeks,” Kaylie Guild, Utah Division of Forestry Fire and State Lands, said.
