The Bossier City Police Department (BCPD) says too many of these crimes are crimes of opportunity.
“It’s really all over the city, speaking with the detectives that are working them.” said BCPD PIO, Shawn Poudrier.
Bossier City police say unlocked doors are one of the biggest contributors to recent car burglary crimes, and once inside, thieves are taking more than just electronics.
“A lot of it is juveniles just rumbling through cars taking guns and things of that nature, IDs and blank checks, and social security cards.”
Police say, don’t leave anything behind when you step away.
“Lock your cars, hide your belongings, anything of value… Don’t leave it in plain sight for people to see.” said Poudrier.
If your car is broken into, report it immediately. Officers are actively investigating and ready to respond.
“If you do discover your vehicle’s been broken into, call Bossier police immediately, they’ll jump right on it.” said Poudrier.
