LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management deployed a two-person team to assist with the aftermath of flooding in parts of central Texas.

The team was requested by Texas through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact to assist the Texas Division of Emergency Management at the State Emergency Operations Center in Austin.

The team will work with Texas emergency officials to provide support in resource tracking, documentation, situational awareness, and operational reporting. They will also work as liaisons between Texas and assisting states.

The deployment is scheduled for eight days, but the mission may be extended if needed. Team members will work 12-hour shifts.

The deployment comes after at least 120 people were killed during a devasting flooding in Texas during the Fourth of July holiday. Officials said more than 160 people are believed to still be missing.
