Severe Weather Timeline: Tracking severe weather threats in Chicagoland

CHICAGO — Chicagoland is gearing up for potentially severe weather on Friday afternoon after a round of overnight showers.

Friday started out on a soggy note, as overnight showers persisted into the morning hours, making for a slick commute. But the rain is not done just yet, as severe weather threats are expected to move in toward the evening hours.

While the skies may clear just a bit before the system moves in, Friday’s storms have the potential to produce strong winds and hail. The storms have the potential to produce hazardous winds, hail and even isolated tornado risks.

Heading into the afternoon, there is about a 30% chance of showers during the evening commute as Chicagoland gears up for the potentially severe storms.

The region is currently at a Level 2 Risk for severe storms heading into the afternoon.

Timeline:

According to the WGN weather experts, the threat of storms arrives around 5 p.m.

The system, moving in from the west, will gradually make its way east through about 11 p.m.

While things are expected to begin winding down around 10 p.m., the risk of severe weather could continue through 11 p.m.
