The department is mourning the loss of Firemedic Brittany Zerwick. It is currently unknown on the cause of death.
Columbus Fire and EMS released a statement on Thursday and expressed their deepest condolences by saying:
“Columbus Fire and EMS is deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of our active firefighters. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic loss.
We are currently working to provide grief counseling and support resources to our personnel as we grieve together as a department. This is a difficult time for our entire fire service family, and we ask the community to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

The department says the funeral arrangements for the firefighter are set for July 14 at 11 a.m. at the Cascade Hills Church, located at 727 54th Street.
