Tuesday’s flooding
Heavy rainfall moved quickly through some parts of the city Tuesday night, causing flash flooding on the West Side, where some drivers were flooded out under overpasses.
In the Garfield Park area, nearly 5 1/2 inches of rain fell over the course of less than two hours in intense localized rainfall.
While scattered storms are possible Wednesday afternoon, that type of heavy rainfall is not in the forecast, as of the morning hours.
Additionally, the back-door cold front moving through later created waves of 3 to 5 feet and rip currents on southern Lake Michigan beaches. A Beach Hazards Statement was issued for counties in Northwest Indiana from 1 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday morning.
