NOTE: This article is now an almanac of Wednesday’s weather. We have published a new forecast story for Thursday.

It was another soggy day Wednesday after a round of showers soaked parts of Chicagoland overnight.

Wednesday saw a wide range of temperatures, from southwest to northeast, as a back-door cold front moved into the area during the afternoon hours.

Heaviest Rainfall

Lots of heavy rain fell throughout Chicago late Tuesday into Wednesday. The areas that saw the most rainfall were Garfield Park and the area near United Center.

Tuesday’s flooding

Heavy rainfall moved quickly through some parts of the city Tuesday night, causing flash flooding on the West Side, where some drivers were flooded out under overpasses.

In the Garfield Park area, nearly 5 1/2 inches of rain fell over the course of less than two hours in intense localized rainfall.

While scattered storms are possible Wednesday afternoon, that type of heavy rainfall is not in the forecast, as of the morning hours.

Additionally, the back-door cold front moving through later created waves of 3 to 5 feet and rip currents on southern Lake Michigan beaches. A Beach Hazards Statement was issued for counties in Northwest Indiana from 1 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday morning.
