Kentucky State Police (KSP) said in a news release just before 3 p.m. on Thursday that troopers with Post 16 in Henderson were dispatched to KY-81 near Wallace Lynn Road in response to a single-vehicle crash in the area.
An initial investigation showed that Leland Thompson, 18, of Calhoun, was driving south on the highway in a 2003 Toyota Corolla when he exited off the right shoulder before allegedly losing control, crossing both lanes before hitting a dirt embankment and overturning.
Thompson and three juveniles were taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital to be treated for their injuries, KSP wrote. Authorities did not say what condition any of the four survivors were in.
State police said a 15-year-old was taken to Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville, where she died from her injuries.
Law enforcement officials said it is currently unknown whether or not Thompson or the passengers had seat belts on at the time of the crash.
The deadly crash investigation remains ongoing.
