Suspect in fatal Vallejo shooting last month arrested

(KRON) — A suspect in a fatal Friday morning shooting in Vallejo last month has been arrested, the Vallejo Police Department announced Wednesday. Vallejo PD officers responded at 9:03 a.m. on Friday, June 20 to a call for service regarding a shooting on the 2100 block of Griffin Drive.

Arriving at the scene, officers found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures, the victim succumbed to their injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Vallejo PD Detective Division took over the investigation and identified 59-year-old Erick Laton Stewart Sr. as the suspect. Stewart, a Vallejo resident, had an outstanding parole violation warrant for his arrest.

On Monday, Vallejo PD Patrol Division officers found Stewart on the 1600 block of Fairgrounds Drive. Police said he attempted to flee but was quickly arrested.

In retracing Stewart’s flight path, officers found a loaded, unregistered firearm which was collected as evidence. Following his arrest, Stewart was booked into the Solano County Jail for parole violations.

On Wednesday, the Solano County District Attorney’s Office charged Stewart with murder.
