BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — July 9, 2025 — A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured two people last month on the city’s west side.
Jerry L. Jackson, who is listed as “transient,” was taken into custody Wednesday without incident by members of the Bloomington Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Jackson is accused of shooting two people on June 18 in the 4600 block of College Drive. Both victims were treated at a hospital and have since been released. They are expected to recover.
Following the shooting, Monroe County detectives identified Jackson as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. Authorities had been actively searching for him since the incident.
Jackson was booked into the Monroe County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder, a Level 1 felony, and Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 felony.
Authorities emphasized that the charges are merely accusations and Jackson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Editor’s note: Law enforcement typically uses the generic term “transient” to describe someone without a fixed address, as it’s a legal designation that reflects a person’s mobility or lack of permanent residence. Further details about Jackson’s housing status were not released.
