KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — At least two people have died in Kentucky over the past month in ATV crashes. With more riders hitting the trails during summer, safety is crucial.

The ATV Safety Institute urges riders to take a training course—either in person or online—before getting behind the wheel.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Riders should always follow trail signs, inspect their vehicles before riding, and wear proper safety gear.

“Always wear a DOT-compliant helmet. Eye protection. You want to have full-fingered gloves to protect your hands. Long sleeves. Long pants at a minimum—again, to keep your arms and legs protected—and over-the-ankle boots to really protect your ankles,” Andria Yu, ATV safety instructor.

The Institute also warns: never drive an ATV on pavement, and always supervise riders under 16.
