School system officials said the Transportation Opt-Out Program lets families decline school bus services for students if they don’t need them. The program was created to improve efficiency for the EBR Schools’ transportation department and improve operations, route planning and shorten travel times.
EBR Schools reassures families that students will still have access to bus services for field trips, sporting events and school-sponsored activities.
Students who live within a one-mile radius of their home school are responsible for their transportation, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.
To opt out before the first day of school on Aug. 7, fill out a form available online or call 225-226-3784. Parents can choose to opt back into the program by contacting the transportation department.
