STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Stafford County authorities said a man was arrested after taking deputies on the “scenic route” to his home after a hard night out drinking.

Just after 12:15 a.m., a Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputy was driving south on Deacon Road when a northbound vehicle passed him going 77 in a 45 mph zone. The deputy made a U-turn to stop the driver, but the Dodge reportedly took off, initiating a pursuit.

The driver reached speeds up to nearly 90 mph as the car took a sharp left onto Ficklen Road and then a right onto Julian Drive.

When the driver tried turning into a driveway at his home, he hit a ditch. With the deputy close behind, the driver drove through his backyard and came to a stop, eventually surrendering.

SCSO said the driver was identified as 26-year-old Kenneth Jones, who had a blood alcohol content of nearly twice the legal limit. He was charged with felony eluding, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2, drinking while driving, reckless driving and vandalism to his neighbors’ yard.

Jones was held without bond.
