The newly established Flatwoods Savanna Wildlife Management Area covers 426 acres between Reeves and LeBlanc in Allen Parish. Meanwhile, the Bogue Chitto Wildlife Management Area spans 1,642.5 acres south of Franklinton near Bogue Chitto State Park in Washington Parish. Both areas are now open for non-consumptive recreational use.
“These new WMAs provide more opportunities for Louisianans to enjoy our state’s natural beauty and support conservation efforts,” the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said in a statement.
The two WMAs were established through a partnership with the Trust for Public Land and funded in part by the Louisiana Outdoor Fund, a program created during the 2022 legislative session to support outdoor conservation projects. Additional project partners include Atira Conservation, EJK Foundation, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation/Restore the Earth Foundation, Partnership for Gulf Coast Land Conservation and The AES Corporation.
