Independence Day crashes down in Pennsylvania, fatalities show no change

(WHTM) — Pennsylvania saw fewer crashes Fourth of July weekend, but fatalities remained the same from last year.

According to new data from the Pennsylvania State Police, there were 803 crashes from July 3 through July 6. That’s down from 944 crashes last year.

PSP also recorded less DUI arrests this year. Troopers made 458 arrests for impaired driving over the holiday weekend, compared to 541 arrests last year.

Still, 12 people lost their lives in an Independence Day crash, showing no change from the previous year. And 58 non-fatal crashes involved a driver under the influence.

The statistics only covered arrests made by PSP and do not include incidents to which other law enforcement responded.
