CHP officers responded at 12:24 a.m. to the shooting, which authorities said began on northbound I-680 south of Stone Valley Road. The victim’s black Tesla 3 was struck by a bullet on the freeway, authorities said, which led to the driver exiting onto Stone Valley Road.
After pulling off the freeway, the shooter’s vehicle followed, and the gunman fired upon the vehicle again, according to CHP. The driver was struck in the head by a bullet during the gunfire.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where they were listed in stable condition as of 8 a.m., according to CHP Sergeant Andrew Barclay.
Authorities have not stated the motive behind the shooting. No information on the shooting suspect or the suspect’s vehicle has been released.
Northbound Interstate 680 was temporarily shut down for investigators to gather evidence and has since reopened.
